ArmInfo.The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia (MECS) intends to hold jubilee events for the 100th anniversary of the Armenian- Iranian artist Marcos Grigorian.
For this purpose, the MECS will create an anniversary commission, which will determine the list of events and programs for the 100th anniversary of Grigorian.
In January 2025, the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia Zhanna Andreasyan and the Mayor of Yerevan Tigran Avinyan signed a memorandum of cooperation in the cultural sphere, within the framework of which it was decided to open a branch of the Markos Grigoryan Museum of Literature and Art in Yerevan. The latter will operate in a building that has received the status of a cultural monument, which is located at the address: st. Hanrapetutyan, 32. Considering that this year marks the 100th anniversary of Marcos Grigorian's birth, the opening of the museum, as the head of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia noted at the time, will be the best way to honor the artist's creative achievements. As part of the cooperation, the capital's municipality and the relevant department will also assist in organizing an exhibition of Marcos Grigorian's works, which will be dedicated to his 100th anniversary.
Marcos Grigorian is an Iranian-Armenian artist, one of the founders of Iranian modern art. Grigorian was born on December 5, 1925, to a family of Armenian immigrants in the city of Kropotkin, Krasnodar Territory.
In 1930, the family moved to Iran. Grigorian studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. In 1954, he returned to Iran and opened a gallery in Tehran. Already in 1958, he organized the first Tehran Biennale. Since 1977, he has lived in different countries. He donated a large number of his works to Armenia, where he opened a museum of the Middle East.
Grigorian's works are currently stored in the Metropolitan Museum (New York), the Tehran Museum of Modern Art and the National Gallery of Armenia.
