ArmInfo.Armenian youth of America reminded Azerbaijan of the Sumgait pogroms. As reported by the press service of the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA), on February 23, the Armenian Youth Federation Washington D.C. AYF-YOARF, along with the Armenian community, organized a protest in front of the Azerbaijani Embassy to condemn the 37th anniversary of the Sumgait massacre and the pogroms in Baku, Kirovabad and Maragha.
The community members also gathered to demand the international community to hold Azerbaijan accountable for the ethnic cleansing of Artsakh, as well as the release of Armenian prisoners of war.
The protest began with a speech by AYF Executive Member Nareg Sakayan, who condemned Azerbaijan's actions, stating, "The Azerbaijani response to the Armenian question, to the desire of Armenians to breathe freely, was to prevent them from breathing at all." Alex Galitsky, ANCA Policy Director, emphasized the importance of resilience, stating, "Today, as we mourn the genocidal blockade and forced displacement of Artsakh's Armenians, the torture of Armenian prisoners and the destruction of our heritage, we must remember that we in the Diaspora do not have the luxury of despair. Our duty is to resist, to fight back and to demand justice." The protest concluded with a prayer to honor the fallen and for the release of Armenian prisoners of war.
