ArmInfo. The health of the Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin, who was injured in a traffic accident in Yerevan, is not in danger. This was reported by the Russian Embassy in Armenia.
"We inform you that due to difficult weather conditions in Yerevan, the car of the Russian Ambassador to Armenia was involved in a traffic accident.
Russian Ambassador Sergey Kopyrkin and the driver received minor injuries. They were provided with the necessary medical care. Their health is not in danger," the diplomatic mission said in a statement.
Heavy snow fell throughout Armenia the day before. Despite the fact that the country's meteorological services warned about the approaching cyclone a week in advance, the Yerevan authorities were not prepared for the bad weather. In the evening, the city was stuck in ten-point traffic jams. A huge number of accidents were recorded. Due to the fact that the capital's roads were not treated with reagents, public transport stopped, and city residents were forced to walk to their homes, often walking several kilometers in bad weather. The situation turned out to be so dire that late in the evening, Education Minister Zhana Andreasyan announced that schools would be closed on February 21.
Meanwhile, Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan, who remembered his obligations only closer to 11:00 p.m. local time, went live from his page and began reporting with a smile that the city was being cleared of snow drifts, and that citizens' discontent was out of place, since supposedly a month's worth of precipitation fell in just 10 hours. At the same time, he called on citizens to stay home tomorrow if possible and stated that kindergartens would be open, since working mothers had nowhere to put their children.
In the morning, despite assurances from city authorities that they were clearing snow, even key city highways were uncleaned. On the rare major streets, uncleaned roads were sprinkled with reagents, which made it even more difficult for drivers, especially sedans, to drive. And secondary roads were completely impassable.
