ArmInfo. The regulatory frameworks and tariff systems that form the basis of interaction within the European Union and the EAEU are incompatible with each other, as stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, during a weekly briefing on February 14.
"I would like to emphasize once again that the issue is not about political preferences, but rather about the incompatible regulatory frameworks and tariff systems that form the basis of interaction within the European Union and the EAEU. Attempts to avoid addressing this problem, to gloss over it, or to overlook this important nuance, are a denial of reality. And perhaps, to some extent, a disservice to those who need to make a decision and may lead to misinformation," the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted, touching upon the issue of possible contradictions between Armenia's European aspirations and membership in the EAEU.
At the same time, she noted that, of course, this is about Armenia's sovereign choice. According to Zakharova, Moscow in no way denies this. "However, the current authorities of Armenia, and not Russia, or the EAEU, bear the key responsibility for explaining to the population all the consequences of the steps they are planning. This should be understood," the Russian diplomat noted. Zakharova also believes that before making such fateful decisions, it is necessary to conduct explanatory work with Armenian society, and explain not only the nuances of what will happen, but also the experience of other countries in this matter to provide a comprehensive understanding.
