ArmInfo. As of now, there is no agreement on the inspection of Azerbaijani cargo by Armenian customs officers if it passes through the territory of Armenia. This was stated at a briefing on February 13 by the secretary of the ruling Civil Contract faction of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Artur Hovhannisyan.
According to him, this can only be discussed if the parties agree to unblock the borders and resolve technical issues. The negotiations, as the deputy noted, are ongoing, and all such issues are being discussed.
In turn, the chairman of the European Integration Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Arman Egoyan expressed his conviction that any cargo passing through the country's borders should be subject to customs inspection. "It is important for the state to know what is being transported through the country's territory, and for this reason I believe that control over the cargo should be carried out by the customs services of the Republic of Armenia," the deputy emphasized, adding that all the necessary technical means are available for inspection. Let us recall that the day before, the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Alen Simonyan announced the readiness of the Armenian side to ensure unimpeded transportation of goods from Azerbaijan through the territory of Armenia.
"This is one of the options under discussion - unimpeded entry and exit. But no one said or discussed that this should happen without any checks. This is unacceptable for us," he said.
