ArmInfo. There is no alternative mechanism to ensure Armenia's security in the region other than the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Moscow hopes that Yerevan understands this. This was stated in an interview with RIA Novosti by the Russian Ambassador to Yerevan, Sergei Kopyrkin, in response to a question about the possibility of Yerevan finally withdrawing from the CSTO and the potential consequences of such a decision.
"Diplomat do not rely on reading tea leaves. We believe that currently there is no other reliable mechanism to guarantee Armenia's security and defense capability in the region. We hope that Yerevan understands this clearly," Kopyrkin said.
He also expressed his confidence that through negotiations among allies, compromise solutions to Yerevan's accumulated issues with the CSTO can be found. "It is within our power to sit down at the negotiating table with our CSTO allies and work together in a partnership-like manner to find compromise solutions to all the issues that have accumulated. However, our Armenian partners also have the sovereign choice in these matters," Kopyrkin noted.
