ArmInfo. Hovik Aghazaryan, a member of the Armenian Parliament, who was previously expelled from the ruling Civil Contract party, has founded a new political party - the United National Socialist Party (UNSP). Its first congress was held in Yerevan today. During an interview with reporters, Aghazaryan noted that the primary goal of his newly formed political force is to oppose the current Prime Minister of Armenia. "We will fight to ensure that Pashinyan is not re- elected or does not become Prime Minister of Armenia during the upcoming snap or regular elections," he said.
Aghazaryan also said that he and another member of the Armenian parliament, Hakob Aslanyan, were the founders of the party. Aslanyan was also expelled from the Civil Contract party. " We found ourselves in circumstances that led us take this step, as we could not find another suitable format to join any existing political force. Now we will have the opportunity to present ourselves to the people in this new form," he said.
In turn, Aslanyan admitted that both he and Aghazaryan were subjected to and continue to be under serious pressure from their former party comrades. " Hovik Aghazaryan and I made every effort to uphold a healthy and free atmosphere within the Civil Contract. Unfortunately, we were unable to break free from the "backpack mentality". This process has now reached its logical conclusion, and today we are left with the power of one person. The Civil Contract team no longer exists, as a group of people where everything is dictated by one person cannot be considered a team," the MP said. He added that he and Aghazaryan have created a new political force with the goal of promoting the formation and development of Armenia's statehood.
