ArmInfo. Azerbaijan has officially notified the United States of the closure of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) office in the country. This was stated by the press secretary of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Ayhan Hajizade in response to an APA request.
"The notification that USAID has no legal basis for operating in the country and is ceasing its activities has been officially sent to the American side," he said.
Earlier, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, at a joint press conference with Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili, said that de jure, as of June 1, 2024, the US Agency for International Development (USAID) had no legal basis for operating in Azerbaijan: "The time has come to stop their activities. There is no need for the further presence and representation of USAID in Azerbaijan, and the moment has already come to completely stop their activities."
