ArmInfo. The arrest of Gharib Babayan would be a mockery of all citizens of Armenia, the knife has already reached the bone. On February 3, Armen Rustamyan, a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia from the opposition faction "Armenia", told journalists about this.
According to him, such a development of events would indicate a curtsey from the Armenian authorities to Azerbaijan. "Everything happening in the country today aligns with the statements of official Baku, including the claim of a fascist regime in Armenia. Thus, the country's authorities do not rule out the possibility that there may indeed be fascists in the country, but they claim not to be them, thereby trying to justify themselves and once again proving that they govern the country based on this logic," the oppositionist noted. The politician added that the Armenian authorities are strictly following instructions coming from Azerbaijan. And the fact that Babayan was acquitted by the court is evidence that everything has its limits, despite the criminal case still being open.
"There are no grounds for arrest in this matter, nor for initiating a criminal case. A person with minimal knowledge understands that this is a completely "fabricated" case," the parliamentarian said. He pointed out that the authorities apparently did not expect such a strong public response. "This speaks to the growth of citizens' self-awareness, and this fact is very important for us in terms of planning our further actions. What happened can be considered a complete disgrace in terms of justice and the ordinary citizens of the country," Rustamyan emphasized.
