ArmInfo. We must make some efforts to put an end to the political show. In a similar way, Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan, during a working session of the city hall, commented on the boycott of the new public transport tariffs of 150 drams by Yerevan residents, led by former mayor Hayk Marutyan, which started on February 1. The faction of the Council of Elders "Mother Armenia" also joined the protest movement.
During the session, the Yerevan Mayor instructed those responsible to resolve this issue as calmly and restrainedly as possible, showing respect for political opponents.
At the same time, he stated that the ultimate goal of the opposition political forces is not a return to the 100- dram fare for public transport, but the failure of the unified ticket system of the city authorities. Avinyan emphasized that the latter did not succeed, since Yerevan residents, as he believes, have a common understanding of the situation and its causes. , - he said, expressing gratitude to the city residents and drivers.
At the same time, Avinyan demanded that clear indicators on passenger traffic and a roadmap for reducing the deficit be presented starting next week.
A new fare for public transport came into force in Yerevan on February 1, which is 150 drams instead of the previous 100 drams. The opposition in the Council of Elders called on the city's population and guests to boycott this decision by the capital's mayor's office.
Many have responded to this call. When boarding buses and trolleybuses, they either pay nothing at all or give 100 drams to the drivers. But there are also law-abiding citizens who pay the full fare.
On his Facebook account, the leader of the Mother Armenia movement Andranik Tevanyan noted that with the start of the new working week, the boycott should become more intense. The politician added that until the issue of returning to the previous tariff of 100 drams, which was signed by 17 thousand residents of the capital, is discussed at a meeting of the Yerevan Council of Elders, the boycott will continue.
"Dear citizens! Show your social solidarity with those who do not have the opportunity to pay the new tariff," he emphasized.
