ArmInfo. The statement by RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on the Armenian Genocide has opened a Pandora's box. This was written on his Facebook page by the leader of the Enlightened Armenia party, Edmon Marukyan.
According to him, one of the latest examples of this is the discussion on this topic between Azerbaijani journalist Elmar Huseynov and Azerbaijani lobbyist Maxim Shevchenko in the latest program aired on the YouTube channel of Vestnik Kavkaza.
Marukyan noted that in the very first minutes of the program the phrase "the so-called Armenian Genocide" is heard, and, referring to the statement of the Armenian leader, the speakers are trying to support their false thesis by saying that this is a myth invented by the Armenian people.
"There are issues, the discussion and questioning of which destroy the essence of the problem. This simple truth is understood by everyone, and this is why the topic of the Armenian Genocide, established by world historiography, has never been a subject of discussion in Armenian society, but from time to time the Armenian authorities try to change the natural situation," the politician noted.
Earlier, the Prime Minister of Armenia, at a meeting with representatives of the Armenian community in Switzerland, questioned the fact of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire. "We must understand what happened and why it happened. And how we perceived it, through whom we perceived it: how did it happen that in 1939 there was no agenda for the Armenian Genocide, but in 1950 it appeared? How this happened, we should understand or should not understand," the Armenian Prime Minister noted.
Independent experts are inclined to believe that the Prime Minister is apparently either unaware that the term Genocide was introduced into circulation by genocide scholar Raphael Lemkin only in 1944, or he is deliberately trying to create a narrative that "this issue was artificially raised by the Soviet Union to put pressure on Turkey."
