ArmInfo. Another scandal has erupted in Armenia after the NGO "Independent Center for Strategic Studies" published a video on its Facebook page, where a group of Azerbaijanis are singing the song "Karabakh" in Azerbaijani on the Republic Square in the center of Yerevan.
Citizens are outraged that the Azerbaijanis are behaving so brazenly in the center of Yerevan and there is not a single law enforcement officer around to call them to order.
Iranist Artem Tonoyan, commenting on the video on his Facebook page, noted that the song performed on the square is known by heart by street singers in Tabriz, as well as the average resident of Tabriz, who watches Azerbaijani channels - although not very well, and with some mistakes. "Earlier, they also sang to us on the streets of Tabriz, as a sign of Armenian-Iranian friendship and Artsakh's belonging to Armenia. But here the question is who gave these people the task to come and perform this song on the square in Yerevan. It is unlikely that this was an accident," the expert wrote.
Later, Tonoyan dedicated another post to this situation. In particular, it says: "Since some circles close to the government have started using my name and recent post to make a public noise with their special style and create a mood of "applause and laughter, green spring", I will make some clarifications in my last post:
Firstly, the song that can be heard in the Yerevan square is not in Persian, as some are spreading. It is written in Azerbaijani, written in Azerbaijan and is a product of the semi-transitional environment of Soviet Azerbaijan.
Secondly, the singers are most likely Iranian citizens who, according to their local (local) affiliation, come from the Turkic-speaking provinces in the north of Iran.
Thirdly, the fact that the singers are citizens of Iran, and not, say, Azerbaijan, does not mean that what is happening is normal and there is nothing to worry about. There are many questions about the motivation for performing such a song in Yerevan Square, possible customers.
Fourthly, it is possible that "What happened in the square in Yerevan happened on the orders of Turkey and/or Azerbaijan, one of whose goals was to spread public panic, deepen the feeling of defenselessness in Armenia, and target Armenia-Iran relations," the expert concluded.
