ArmInfo. The situation in the Caucasus region of the CSTO zone remains unstable, as stated by Colonel General Andrey Serdyukov, the Chief of the Joint Staff of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), at a press briefing. "The settlement process continues, the central aspect of which is the work on demarcation of the Armenian- Azerbaijani border and the preparation for the signing of a peace treaty. Tensions in the region are being fueled by Western countries' attempts to increase their influence in the South Caucasus," Serdyukov emphasized, TASS reports.
According to him, the deteriorating situation in the Middle East, along with the threat of terrorism being exported from its territory, has a significant impact on the situation in the region. "In the Central Asian region, despite the well-known positive changes in Afghanistan, the main source of instability remains the threat to the member states of the organization, the spread of radical ideology, terrorism and criminal drug trafficking from its territory," continued the head of the CSTO Joint Staff. "All of this indicates that in the midst of a deep and rapid transformation of the global world order, the situation in the CSTO area of responsibility and the dynamics of its changes require our increased attention and readiness for an adequate and effective response," Serdyukov concluded.
