ArmInfo. On January 30, the Government of Armenia made a decision to appoint members of the Public Council.
According to the document, the following persons will become members of the Council (with consent): Aghasi Tadevosyan, Arayik Khzmalyan, Armen Baldryan, Armen Muradyan, Armine Margaryan, Gayane Abramyan, Daniel Ioannisyan, Hakob Andreasyan, Hovik Musaelyan, Robert Amirkhanyan, Ruben Safrastyan, Ruben Babayan, Volodya Margaryan (Valmar), Vardan Mkrtchyan and Vardan Azatyan.
The Public Council in Armenia was created as an intermediary between society and the government, it performs an advisory function. Here, issues of concern to the people are discussed, and the results of the discussions are reported to the government. Two-thirds of the Council members (30 out of 45) are elected by the public sector, the remaining 15 are appointed by the government. However, the Prime Minister appoints the Chairman of the Council, and not the members of the Council elect him (the same procedure was in effect under Serzh Sargsyan, when the Chairman of the Council was appointed by the President). The current composition of the Public Council was dissolved in 2024 by law, at that time the body was headed by Stepan Safaryan, and before that by Vazgen Manukyan, who held this post for 10 years.
