ArmInfo. Without fulfilling a single provision of the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev demands that Armenia fulfill its obligations under this statement, and even in a distorted version.
The President of Azerbaijan is trying to get an extraterritorial corridor through Syunik from Armenia through threats and blackmail, amid the silence of the international community.
"The transport project put forward by Azerbaijan - the "Zangezur Corridor" - was included in the international agenda. Today, the "Zangezur Corridor" is already a generally accepted expression, term in the world, and we are taking practical steps to open it," Aliyev said at a meeting on transport, Turan reports.
"There should be comfortable and free passage from Azerbaijan to Azerbaijan without any checks and obstacles. We have not forgotten and will not forget Zangezur. I say again, we have no territorial claims against Armenia. However, Armenia must fulfill its obligations by providing unimpeded passage from Azerbaijan to Azerbaijan," Aliyev said.
Touching upon the "Crossroads of Peace" project initiated by Armenia, he made it clear that this idea is not feasible. "This so-called project is not worth a dime without Azerbaijan: If you really want to implement this project, you should first turn to Azerbaijan, because without us it is just a piece of paper. And our conditions are fair, based on international law and on the obligations of Armenia itself," said Aliyev, who has a peculiar understanding of international law, as evidenced by the hundreds of political prisoners in Baku prisons.
Armenia, within the framework of the trilateral statement, pledged to provide Azerbaijan with a transport route through its territory to connect mainland Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan. However, having swallowed Artsakh by force, against the backdrop of the inaction of the international community, Aliyev has now decided to get an extraterritorial corridor from Armenia.
