ArmInfo. The agreement on strategic partnership between Armenia and the United States, among other issues, provides for the construction of small nuclear modular power plants on the territory of the republic using American technology. This was written on his Facebook page by international expert Suren Sargsyan.
The expert recalled that today in Washington the launch of the Armenian-American strategic partnership will be announced, which implies deepening relations in a number of areas. "Before this, the Armenian- American strategic partnership had already been announced, which was reflected in the signing of the document on strategic dialogue. The new document is a logical continuation of the first. However, I would like to remind you that Georgia had a similar status with the United States since 2009, but we all know what happened to this status," the political scientist noted.
Sargsyan emphasized that strategic partnership does not mean a strategic alliance, such as the US-Israel or US-UK relations. "The US will not provide Armenia with any security guarantees, military assistance, or sell or supply weapons and ammunition as assistance: this format does not imply the deployment of a US military base or military personnel in Armenia. In the security sector, this implies support for advisory programs, military-to-military contact activities, professional military education opportunities through the International Military Education and Training Program, and the continuation of a long-term partnership with the Kansas National Guard. The document also envisages providing Armenia with additional financial and technical support aimed at economic growth, continuing reform programs, protecting human rights, and implementing social programs. In the field of nuclear energy, I think there is a desire to deploy small American nuclear power plants in Armenia," Sargsyan noted.
The expert wondered whether the future US administration would implement the provisions of this document, which would be signed by the outgoing administration. "It will be more difficult and depends solely on our work," Sargsyan stated.
Earlier it was reported that today, January 14, an agreement on strategic partnership between Armenia and the US would be signed in Washington.
