ArmInfo. Armenia's representative on international legal issues, Yeghishe Kirakosyan, firmly believes that submitting claims to international structures to some extent contributes to the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
During a conversation with journalists on January 10, Kirakosyan highlighted that all issues arising between states should be resolved in a civilized manner using international mechanisms. And this means prevalence of laws, prevention of military actions, etc. Kirakosyan noted that one of Armenia's claims on racial discrimination is intended to prevent war. The official pointed out that both Armenia and Azerbaijan have filed claims in international courts. "But here the question arises: if Azerbaijan is so confident in its righteousness, then why does it insist on stopping the trials?" asked Kirakosyan. He mentioned that the Armenian side had previously presented its demands concerning the Armenian prisoners in Azerbaijan, including top military and political leadership of Nagorno-Karabakh. In response to these demands, the ECHR requested detailed information from Baku regarding all Armenians detained in Azerbaijan. The response is expected by the end of January.
