ArmInfo. The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, has proposed extending the deployment of the EU civilian mission in Armenia for another two years, as reported by Radio Liberty (Azatutyun) with reference to the High Representative's press service.
According to the source, the EU Council decision on the extension of the mission is expected in the coming days. "Member States have welcomed this proposal and are currently discussing the necessary legal acts with the relevant bodies of the EU Council," the written response stated.
The Office of the High Representative has also responded to Baku's accusations of the espionage and undermining regional stability. The response noted that since the deployment of the monitoring mission, the number of armed incidents in the border areas has significantly decreased. In addition, EU representatives emphasized that they regularly inform Azerbaijan about the activities of the mission. "The mandate of the EU mission in Armenia is very clear: to observe and report on the ground, on the Armenian side of the Armenian-Azerbaijani, and to contribute to the EU's efforts in the Armenian-Azerbaijani settlement," the mission's response notes.
