ArmInfo. Until recently, it was de jure unclear what the officially approved national anthem of Armenia is. This was stated on January 10 at a meeting of the National Assembly Committee on State and Legal Affairs by the co-author of the amendments to the law "On the National Anthem" Sisak Gabrielyan.
According to him, insufficient attention was paid to this issue in Armenia. In a number of cases, a picture was observed in which in one case the anthem was performed at a fast tempo, in another - at a slow tempo. Moreover, different notes were often used when performing the anthem, and in some cases the last two lines were repeated. The draft law stipulates that after the country's parliament adopts the submitted document, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports will present the final version of the national anthem.
The purpose of the bill is to create a single version of the anthem that will be used at international sports, cultural and other events. This change will eliminate the currently available options, ensuring clarity and uniformity.
The deputies also proposed removing the following quatrain: "Death is one everywhere, a person dies only once, but blessed is he who dies for the freedom of his people." The draft also proposes to place the last verse of the anthem after the first verse, so that the text of the anthem ends not with the words "Blessed is he who dies for the freedom of his people," but with the words "Let Armenia always be famous."
As noted by the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan, the government does not object to the legislative initiative of the deputies. According to her, before the start of the new academic year, the national anthem of the country should be played in all schools and universities, as well as in preschool educational institutions.
The bill received a positive conclusion from the commission, and now it will be considered at the next plenary session of the RA National Assembly.
