ArmInfo. In 2024, Armenia elected presiding country of Conference of Parties to Convention on Biological Diversity
In 2024, the Republic of Armenia became a member of the International Criminal Court, and also achieved success in the elections to the governing bodies of international organizations. This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia.
In particular, as emphasized in the statement, Armenia became the presiding and host country of the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP-17) to the Convention on Biological Diversity, which will be held in Yerevan in 2026. In addition, the republic became a member of the UN Economic and Social Council for 2025-2027, as well as a member of the Board of the newly created Loss and Damage Fund of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement for 2024-2027.
The MFA statement emphasizes that last year the country managed to join the advisory board of the newly established Santiago Network on the Prevention, Mitigation and Elimination of Loss and Damage under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement for 2024-2026.
"We emphasize that for the first time since independence, Armenia was elected as the chair and host of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity," the MFA of Armenia specifically noted.
