ArmInfo. During 2024, many events took place in Armenia, which, unfortunately, did not lead to anything good for the country. This was stated by the head of the parliamentary faction "I have the honor" of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Hayk Mamijanyan at a press conference on December 26.
In particular, as the politician noted, the outgoing year was marked by the surrender of four villages of the Tavush region to Azerbaijan in the spring of this year. "All the formulations that Pashinyan (the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia - ed.) resorts to, justifying the transfer of part of Armenia's sovereign territory under Baku's control, are nothing more than simple demagogy. It's the same as if the same Pashinyan and his fellow party members stated that Hovik Agazaryan and Hakob Aslanyan had never been members of the ruling Civil Contract party in the country and the NA faction of the same name. They will directly state that these two have never been members of the NA from the Civil Contract faction. They are trying to justify the surrender of four villages to Armenia using the same logic," Mamijanyan said.
He added that the fortified defensive structures in the Tavush region were the strongest and most powerful along the entire border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This explains the fact that Baku failed to carry out aggression against Armenia in this area. "This largely explains Azerbaijan's demand to start the delimitation process from these areas in order to weaken the positions of our country's armed forces as much as possible. In turn, Azerbaijan was able to build its positions on the areas surrendered by Pashinyan, and knowing the policy of official Baku, we can safely assume that they will be used for defensive purposes," the oppositionist emphasized.
He also sharply criticized the border delimitation process, which is carried out on the basis of the Rules of Procedure of the commissions. "The Republican Party of Armenia has stated and continues to state that the delimitation and demarcation of borders is necessary for our country, no one disputes this, but not in the situation in which the country finds itself," the parliamentarian noted, pointing to other facts of the country's authorities' actions.
