ArmInfo. The Armenian Defense Ministry has suggested changing the health requirements for individuals called up for military service in order to eliminate < loopholes> that allow individuals to evade service. The corresponding draft resolution was approved during a government meeting on December 19.
When presenting the draft resolution, Defense Minister Suren Papikyan proposed to recognize conscripts with certain illnesses as partially fit for military service. This recognition would come after a one-year deferment if their health does not deteriorate. The draft resolution also aims to specify the conditions for military service based on health status and a description of certain illnesses. Papikyan noted that the changes will help ensure a fair organization of military service and prevent individuals from evading their military obligations.
A separate change is planned for servicemen with symptoms of gallbladder disease. According to the minister, modern operations enable speedy recovery, but currently some officers are forced to leave service due to this disease. The department now permits officers with gallstone disease to not only remain in service, but also to undergo certification and continue their regular service.
