Armenia supported the draft resolution "Combating the glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to fueling contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance" initiated by Russia in the UN General Assembly.
As reported by the Russian mission to the UN on Twitter (X), the draft resolution initiated by the Russian Federation was adopted by the UN General Assembly by a majority vote. The document was supported by 119 out of 182 UN countries. 53 states voted against, including the United States, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Poland and Japan, and another 10 countries abstained.
Among those who supported the initiative were, among others, Argentina, Brazil, Egypt, India, Iraq, Israel, Kazakhstan, Mali, Mexico, Mongolia, Niger, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Sudan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, the UAE, Vietnam and others. Among the ten who abstained were Kiribati, Myanmar, Panama, Switzerland, Turkey.
According to Russian media, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Maria Zabolotskaya stated that the adopted resolution is aimed at strengthening international cooperation in the fight against Nazism, racism and xenophobia. According to her, the modern system of human rights protection arose as a response to the genocide and war crimes of the Nazis, and the decisions of the Nuremberg Tribunal forever secured the outcome of World War II. She emphasized that the fight against Nazism and its manifestations remains one of the most important tasks of the UN, created in response to the horrors of Nazism and fascism.
Russia and a group of co-authors have been introducing this resolution for almost 20 years, and it is supported by the overwhelming majority of the international community. Zabolotskaya condemned the actions of Western countries that seek to sow discord and complicate the fight against neo-Nazism, racism and xenophobia.
The co-authors of the project were Belarus and Turkmenistan. The document, which is traditionally submitted by the Russian Federation and adopted since 2005, consists of 74 points.
Earlier, on November 11, the UN General Assembly Committee adopted a Russian resolution on combating the glorification of Nazism. The co-authors were dozens of states, including Armenia, Belarus, China, Mali, the DPRK, Serbia, and South Africa. The document contains a call to prevent the distortion of historical truth and to reject all forms of racial discrimination.
