ArmInfo.. On December 17, the National Assembly of Armenia's Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sports began parliamentary hearings to discuss the new draft law "On Youth Policy".
As Deputy Chairperson of the Committee Taguhi Ghazaryan noted in her speech, today almost 27% of the population of Armenia are young people, and unlocking their potential is one of the priorities of the country's authorities. The MP also drew attention to the fact that today Armenia is the world leader in the number of young MPs. And this, as the MP noted, is evidence that the voice of the youth already plays a significant role in the life of the state, especially in decision-making.
Kazaryan noted that the development of the new document began three years ago together with a number of international partners, including UNDP, USAID and others. The law is aimed at developing young people into self-sufficient and proactive individuals. The document defines specific mechanisms that will facilitate the professional orientation of young people, their more active involvement in the socio-economic life of the country and the development of human capital. For example, it is planned to create local government staff for young people in the country's communities, form youth centers and finance youth programs.
In turn, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia Artur Martirosyan emphasized that the document presents the priorities of youth policy, according to which primary importance is attached to identifying the capabilities of young people, their development, meeting educational, cultural and scientific needs, increasing the level of participation in economic, political and social life. "Youth policy will be aimed at developing the creative abilities of young people, increasing their initiative and competitiveness, which will expand their opportunities to ensure their own well-being, and thus, will contribute to social development," the Deputy Minister said.
