ArmInfo. From November 29 to December 12, the unified ticket system was used 1 million 470 242 times out of the declared 4 million 51 thousand 861, which is 36%. This was announced on December 16 at a working meeting in the capital's municipality.
In this regard, Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan emphasized the need to prepare for the introduction of the system and create conditions for its use. In this regard, during the meeting, it was noted about the planned services that will begin to operate from the 20th, however, as the responsible officials noted during the meeting, specific dates on this issue have not yet been determined.
Touching on the frequency of buses, the mayor of Yerevan admitted that in some areas, such as Noragavit, the situation has worsened and further steps must be taken to improve it. At the same time, he noted that the intervals of bus arrivals will be reduced, especially during rush hours.
"There are also other areas that have this problem. Interim solutions are needed before the city is equipped with 250 new 18-meter buses," Avinyan said. The mayor also recalled the existing program related to the purchase of 171 buses. He expressed confidence that the new buses and 19 trolleybuses being put into operation will improve the situation in Yerevan and will play their role. However, he noted that there are still specific issues that need to be addressed. In addition, he acknowledged the problem of replacing outdated buses, adding that 118 units are currently out of service. At the same time, according to him, the number of buses is decreasing, and only those that are suitable for operation remain.
"We are doing everything possible to reduce the number of cars in Yerevan and increase the number of people using public transport. This means that the flow of passengers in public transport should increase," Avinyan concluded. Let us remind you that new tariffs for public transport will be applied in the capital of Armenia from January 1, 2025. Subject to single use in each vehicle, the cost of three trips will be 280-300 drams. From 880 to 900 drams for 1 day - 8 trips, 4800-5000 drams for 7 days - 30 trips. For an unlimited number of trips, the tariff will be 8800-9000 drams for 30 days, 23,600-24,000 drams for 90 days, 88,000-90,000 drams for 365 days, a multiple-use ticket - 2100-2200 drams for 10 trips per month. Tariffs will apply to all types of public transport.
The Mayor called on Yerevan residents to pay for public transport in two ways starting November 1: with 100-dram coins, which must be inserted into the appropriate device, or by using the preliminary unified ticket system, that is, by purchasing an electronic ticket using terminals with the appropriate QR code. In this way, Avinyan emphasized, the transport company's income will be consistently increased, the shadow turnover of financial resources will be avoided, and the full transition to a unified ticket system will be simplified. It should be noted that independent experts are skeptical about the Yerevan Mayor's initiatives to bring huge buses to the Armenian capital.
These large, unwieldy buses, brought to Yerevan due to their large size, create serious inconvenience for city traffic. They simply cannot fit properly in the traffic lane, their approach to stops has become more difficult, since more than two buses cannot simultaneously approach the platform, and due to their large size, the waiting interval for the approaching train has increased. Experts are sure that Yerevan would benefit from small, maneuverable buses that would arrive at short intervals and would be able to properly serve the passenger flow. We will add that the Yerevan City Hall's transport reform led to the unification of several transport routes into one and, instead of facilitating the movement of citizens, created even more discomfort.
