ArmInfo. A resident of Artsakh was detained at Yerevan's Zvartnots airport on charges of participating in mass protests near the Armenian government in September 2023.
As lawyer Roman Yeritsyan reported on his Facebook page, the detainee, a former nurse at the Stepanakert Medical Center, arrived in Yerevan from Russia to attend her grandfather's funeral and was detained and taken to the police station directly from the airport. According to him, the accused is the daughter of a deceased serviceman, and has been living and working in Russia with her family, including minor children, since October 2023.
"The woman arrived in Armenia to attend her grandfather's funeral. The court rejected the motion to arrest the accused due to lack of grounds, and she has currently been given a preventive measure in the form of a written undertaking not to leave," Yeritsyan wrote.
In addition, the lawyer reported that due to the charges brought against her and the preventive measure applied, the woman will be forced to remain within the country until the case reaches the court.
Independent human rights activists are signaling the ongoing oppression of Artsakh residents by the current Armenian authorities. On far-fetched grounds, Artsakh residents are taken into custody with the aim of intimidation and not allowing them to participate in the internal political processes in the Republic of Armenia.
