ArmInfo. Despite the assurances of the current Armenian authorities about imminent peace with Azerbaijan, there is no sign of peace in the region. This is evidenced by the new demands periodically made by Baku to Yerevan, after yet another concession by the Armenian side.
Thus, as it became known from local media, today Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elnur Mammadov stated at the event "The Main Obstacles to Signing a Peace Agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia" that there are two main obstacles to achieving sustainable peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, one of which is in the Constitution of Armenia.
Then, boasting about the unpunished occupation of Artsakh, he stated that in 2021, Azerbaijan made peace proposals to Armenia for the first time.
"We have prepared basic principles for peace. In 2020-2022, we did not know what Armenia wanted. After that, we held comprehensive discussions. They took place in the United States, Russia and Kazakhstan. During these discussions, we tried to develop a peace agreement. There are two main obstacles to achieving sustainable peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. One of them is in the Constitution of Armenia. This obstacle is also reflected in the Act of Independence of Armenia. There, the clause "Nagorno-Karabakh is part of Armenia" was adopted as a basis," the diplomat emphasized.
At the same time, he did not voice Baku's second demand to Yerevan. However, independent experts are inclined to believe that Baku's second condition is the settlement of Armenia by Azerbaijanis, who, having successfully taken monetary compensation from the Armenian state, left for Azerbaijan in the early 90s of the last century. It is noteworthy that no one remembers the more than 500 thousand Armenians thrown out of their homes on the territory of Azerbaijan. And even more so, no one remembers the deported Armenians of Artsakh.
