ArmInfo In Yerevan, 460 out of 500 elevators have already been replaced.
According to the press service of the Yerevan Municipality, 4.6 billion drams have been allocated from the community budget for the implementation of the program. The capital's municipality also reminded that the elevators installed in apartment buildings have a history of more than 40 years.
"As a result of the programs implemented in recent years, about 2,000 elevators have already been replaced with new ones. The installed elevators are fully adapted for people with visual, hearing and musculoskeletal disabilities," the municipality said in a statement.
Programs to replace elevator equipment in Yerevan started back in 2019. In 2020, a decision was made to replace 500 elevators, with plans to complete the program by the end of the year. As reported by the city hall, the cost of the pilot project to replace 20 elevators was 19 million drams, financed by the community.
To modernize the entire elevator stock of the Armenian capital and other cities, the city hall received proposals from Belarusian and Russian companies to organize an assembly production, which would significantly reduce costs and increase the efficiency of the program.
