ArmInfo. The former commander of Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh, Hero of Russia Colonel General Rustam Muradov has been appointed deputy commander-in-chief of the ground forces, RBK reports, citing a source familiar with the personnel appointments.
Since 2014, General Oleg Salyukov has been the commander-in-chief of the ground forces. The Russian Defense Ministry has not officially announced Muradov's appointment.
Muradov commanded Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh from November 2020 to May 2021.
Muradov was previously the commander of the "East" group of forces in the military operation zone in Ukraine, the Defense Ministry reported in July 2022. Since October 2022, he led the joint strategic command of the Eastern Military District. He holds the title of Hero of Russia, the Order of Merit for the Fatherland of the IV and III degrees, and the Order of Courage. At the end of February 2022, he was subject to EU sanctions.
