ArmInfo.Armenia is negotiating the purchase of another 78 units of the Advanced Towed Artiller Gun System (ATAGS) of 155 mm/52 caliber from India. This was reported by the Indian Defence Research Wing (IDRW).
It is noted that the negotiations are taking place after the successful testing of the ATAGS, previously delivered to Armenia. The source notes that the units demonstrated exceptional capabilities in various landscapes of the country.
The first batch of six howitzers underwent extensive testing in Armenia, including in highland and flat terrain. The tests confirmed accuracy at long distances and high reliability, which prompted the Armenian authorities to consider the possibility of purchasing more.
Last March The Armenian Ministry of Defense made a decision on the need to purchase 155 mm artillery systems with a barrel length of 52 calibers. And the choice fell on the Indian ATAGS of Bharat Forge Limited. The above-mentioned manufacturer was selected for these negotiations due to the successful completion of a technical assessment and commercial tender, which confirmed the compliance of its products with the army's requirements. One of the main characteristics of this system is its range - more than 48 kilometers when using specialized ammunition, which significantly exceeds traditional artillery.
