ArmInfo. The Azerbaijani administration has demolished another 2.5 hectares of residential buildings in occupied Stepanakert, adjacent to the previously demolished 6 historical quarters.
This was reported by the Secretary of the State Council for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of the occupied Artsakh Sergey Shahverdyan. According to him, thus, during October-November, about 8.5 hectares were demolished in the center of the NKR capital. Shahverdyan recalled that 3.5 hectares adjacent to the university and 0.5 hectares of residential buildings adjacent to the Europe Hotel were also razed to the ground.
" Let us recall that the first demolitions of public buildings were recorded in the spring - then the Azerbaijani administration demolished the NKR parliament building, the building of the Union of Veterans and the Armenia Hotel on Revival Square.
Such obvious violations of the decisions of the International Criminal Court are possible only if Azerbaijan is confident in impunity. This confidence is confirmed by the absence of any public reaction from the Republic of Armenia and the corresponding actions of the NKR state bodies," Shahverdyan noted.
At the same time, he wondered what the citizens of Artsakh could do to protect their rights?
"Firstly, by all possible means, force the Armenian authorities to express a public reaction. Secondly, inundate the European Court of Human Rights with compensation claims.
Since my house was also demolished, I personally decided to sue Azerbaijan for compensation for the destroyed property (not for the land). In this regard, it is very important that international experts with the relevant knowledge prepare sample applications to the International Court and provide them to those interested," Shahverdyan concluded.
