ArmInfo. Against the backdrop of the silence of the Armenian authorities, Georgian Ambassador to our country Giorgi Sharvashidze stood up for the territorial integrity of Armenia against the backdrop of statements by Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili.
"Georgia and the Republic of Armenia have special relations based on centuries-old strong friendship, trust and mutual respect of our peoples. Georgia and Armenia firmly and unconditionally support each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity within their internationally recognized borders. In addition, our countries successfully cooperate in various fields, both bilaterally and multilaterally," the Georgian diplomat told the Armenpress state agency, touching upon the step taken by Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili, who shared a publication by one of the Georgian tour operators on her Facebook page and called the Lori region of Armenia "historical Georgia."
At the same time, the diplomat recalled that the declaration on strategic partnership signed between Georgia and Armenia in 2024 raised these relations to a qualitatively new level, which in the future will further deepen our multidisciplinary cooperation and have a positive impact on the stability and development of the region.
"Any attempt to cast a shadow on the exemplary cooperation between our countries and the centuries-old friendship of the Georgian and Armenian peoples is unacceptable," Sharvashidze said.
A few days ago, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili shared on her Facebook page a publication of one of the Georgian tour operators, which offered to visit temples in the Lori region, and listing a number of historical and architectural monuments that are the greatest examples of Chalcedonian culture in Armenia, she said: "Historical Georgia!!! A unique culture, unfortunately, left in Lora. Let us remember how far we were, let us respect the eternal, mysterious, great Georgia." It is curious that the Armenian authorities did not react to these territorial claims of Zurabishvili. The Armenian Foreign Ministry, as is traditional, pretended that nothing was happening.
