ArmInfo. In the Hrazdan Gorge, a layer of 300,000 years of history is being destroyed for the sake of another high-rise. This was reported on his Facebook page by Doctor of Historical Sciences Hayk Demoyan, who published a photo-proof of his words.
"In the Hrazdan Gorge, under the strict gaze of Aragats (not Ararat), an excavator has just destroyed a natural monument formed 300 thousand years ago, which was one of the calling cards of the capital. This is only the beginning.
Soon, with a light movement of the excavator bucket, a rich archaeological layer at least 10 meters thick with artifacts dating from the Stone Age to the late Middle Ages will be sent to hell. After the rains, passing by, you can pick up the remains of medieval glazed ceramics," the historian noted.
At the same time, Demoyan added that after this treasure is destroyed, another high-rise building will rise here. "Let's say that the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia Zhanna Andreasyan is not in her place, archaeologists are subordinate to ethnographers. But what are human rights activists, progressive feminists and new journalist-analysts doing, and they cannot stand on the edge of the gorge and arrange a good demonstration," he asked. Then he suggested that archaeologists begin excavations before concreting this historical layer, which has great value. "Cultural genocide or goodbye, the "Old Yerevan" project these days...", he summed up.
