ArmInfo. The National Assembly of Armenia adopted amendments to the laws "On Military Service and the Status of a Serviceman" and "On State Pensions" in the first reading during an extraordinary session on October 31.
According to Armen Khachatryan, the co-author of the presented document and a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia from the ruling "Civil Contract" faction, the package includes provisions provides for the return of reserve officers to military service while allowing them to retain their military pensions. Corresponding contracts will be signed with these officers for service in specific military units. The proposed initiative, as the deputy noted, is intended to make military service under a contract more appealing and to generate greater interest in it. Accordingly, the right to receive a military pension for length of service is proposed to be retained for reservists not above the rank of lieutenant colonel who return to military service in units determined by the Minister of Defense.
In turn, the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Suren Papikyan noted that the package provides for filling military positions in middle and lower ranks. As expected, the package will be adopted in the second and final reading today.
