ArmInfo. As a result of the expansion of the infertility program, the number of women who have overcome infertility with the help of assisted reproductive technologies has increased by about 50%. This was stated by the director of the Armenian Center for Human Reproduction Eduard Ambartsumyan during the 22nd conference on the topic "Secrets of Assisted Reproductive Technologies and Future Achievements".
According to him, the legislative field of Armenia provides the best conditions for the development of reproductive medicine with the help of assisted technologies.
As reported by the press service of the Ministry of Health, during the conference, reports were made by Professor Rene Friedman, Zion Ben Raphael (Israel), who first performed in vitro fertilization (IVF) in France, and British scientist Rami Wakim. In their speeches, the conference participants emphasized the visible achievements in this area in Armenia.
According to the information, the conference was organized by the Armenian Association of Reproductive Medicine and the National Institute of Health.
In Armenia, the launch of a program for the treatment of infertility through free or discounted access to assisted reproductive technologies (ART) was announced in August 2019 at a government meeting.
According to the latest changes, in the case of primary infertility, the program will apply to women under 40 years of age, while according to the current regulations, the age limit for treatment and in vitro fertilization (IVF) was set at 36 years. In addition, in the case of secondary infertility, beneficiaries of the state program can be not only women from border regions, but also from all over the Republic.
According to the United Nations Population Fund, infertility in Armenia (among families of reproductive age) is 16.8% with a critical level of 15%.
