ArmInfo.On October 14, the RA Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan received a delegation led by Patrick Svensson, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Republic of Armenia.
As reported by the Ombudsman's office, during the meeting, Anahit Manasyan presented to the ambassador the important areas of activity of the department she heads, which include, among other things, the rights of women, children, national minorities, persons with disabilities, human rights in the armed forces, incitement to hatred, intolerance, discrimination.
As part of the meeting, the Ombudsman presented the current problems in the field of ensuring equality and combating discrimination. In this context, the Human Rights Defender pointed out the unacceptable scale of the atmosphere of hatred, discrimination and intolerance in the Republic of Armenia and the importance of the work carried out to combat these phenomena. The Defender noted that such manifestations are widespread in Armenia, which is unacceptable. Of particular concern is the use of discriminatory statements and incitement to hatred on all grounds in the academic community, by political and public figures, as well as in the media. Anahit Manasyan noted that any manifestations of hate speech should be excluded from public speeches.
Defender Anahit Manasyan also touched upon issues related to the protection of the rights of internally displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh, the activities carried out by Ju personally and her office. During the meeting, issues related to environmental rights and the right of citizens to rest were also discussed.
In turn, Patrick Svensson thanked for the reception and emphasized the important role of the Ombudsman's institution in implementing the mission to protect human rights.
