ArmInfo.The first visit of Florence Bauer, Director of the Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the United Nations Population Fund, to Armenia began with a meeting with the UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia Francois Jacob, followed by a meeting with representatives of UN agencies.
According to the press service of the UNFPA Yerevan office, this was an important opportunity to discuss key issues and long-term plans, including the need to pool resources and make long-term investments in demographic sustainability.
The meeting emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts between UNFPA and other UN agencies in Armenia, which can maximize the impact of development programs, especially in areas such as gender equality, sexual and reproductive health, and youth empowerment.
According to the RA Statistical Committee, in January-August 2024, 21,876 children were born, which is 7.3% lower than the previous year. The birth rate per 1,000 inhabitants for the reporting period was 10.9 per mille, compared to 12 per mille in 2023.
During the reporting period, 17,213 people died in Armenia, which is 4.9% higher than the previous year. The death rate in the country was 8.5 per mille, compared to 8.4 per mille in 2023.
Thus, the absolute value of the natural population growth was 4,663 people, which is 35.1% lower than the previous year. The natural population growth rate for January-August 2024 was 2.4 per mille, compared to 3.6 per mille in the same period of 2023.
