On West`s instructions this regime opens gates to Aliyev and Erdogan  - opinion

This is how Stanford  University political science doctor Artur Khachikyan responded to the news that from January 1, 2025, the Border Troops of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia will also participate in  the protection of the Armenia-Iran and Armenia-Turkey state borders, and at the checkpoint on the Armenia-Iran state border, the service will be carried out entirely by the Border Troops of the National  Security Service of the Republic of Armenia. 

"On instructions from the West, this regime opens the gates to Aliyev  and Erdogan (the presidents of Azerbaijan and Turkey - ed.). The next  stage is the withdrawal of the Russian base from Gyumri. As the last  few years have shown, not every nation deserves a state," Khachikyan  noted. 

On October 8, after the meeting of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol  Pashinyan with Russian President Vladimir Putin, it became known that  on January 1, 2025, the Border Troops of the National Security  Service of the Republic of Armenia will also participate in the  protection of the Armenia-Iran and Armenia- Turkey state borders, and  the service at the checkpoint on the Armenia-Iran state border will  be fully carried out by the Border Troops of the National Security  Service of the Republic of Armenia.

It should be added that on August 1 of this year, Russian border  guards left the Armenian inter-airport "Zvartnots".

The basis for the current presence of Russian border guards in  Armenia is the interstate agreement on the status of the Russian  border troops on the territory of the republic, concluded in Yerevan  on September 30, 1992.

The Border Department of the FSB of the Russian Federation in Armenia  includes 4 border detachments - in Gyumri, Armavir, Artashat and  Meghri, as well as a separate checkpoint at the Yerevan International  Airport "Zvartnots". The maintenance of Russian border guards in  Armenia is provided by the governments of the two states  approximately equally. Unlike the Russian military base, where only  Russian citizens serve, citizens of Armenia also have the right to  serve in the border troops of the Russian Federation in the republic
