ArmInfo. Political scientist, member of the Coordination Council under the Public Chamber of Russia for the integration of new Russian entities Vladimir Karasev commented on the vandalism committed by Azerbaijan against the Cathedral of the Holy Christ the Savior in occupied Shushi.
"The Surb Amenaprkich Ghazanchetsots Temple or the Cathedral of the Holy Christ the Savior has been a symbol of Shushi for hundreds of years, its pride and one of the examples of the skill of Armenian architects of the 19th century.
The temple is the center of the Artsakh Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church. The church became an illustration of how alive the power of Armenian construction art of the 19th century was. The church contained gilded reliquaries and many manuscripts, some dating back to 1612 and 1660," Karasev recalled.
He noted that at the top of the southern side of the building there is an inscription: "By the grace and mercy of the Almighty God, the miraculous holy cathedral was built with the funds and donations of the parishioners of the Amenaprkich Ghazanchetsots Church in Shushi, the construction of which began in 1868 during the reign of the almighty autocrat Emperor of All Rus' Alexander II and the patriarchate of George IV, and was completed in 1887 during the coronation of the son of His Majesty the blessed Emperor Alexander III under Catholicos Makar I. September 20, 1888."
"What does the state of Azerbaijan, which was born on May 28, 1918, have to do with this? The video shows that the crosses have been removed from the Cathedral of the Holy Christ the Savior in Shushi and the dome of the mosque has been installed.
In an attempt to humiliate the ancient Armenian civilization, the Azerbaijani authorities have humiliated themselves by deciding to rebuild the ancient Armenian temple
