ArmInfo.Statements by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan about the threat to the republic's sovereignty from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) contradict common sense. This was stated to journalists by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"It seems to me that they (the statements) contradict common sense and reality. Because if something "threatens" you, especially national security, then what is the point of saying that they (Armenia) are still there (in the CSTO). If they are staying, it means that they see some expediency in this. At the same time, they said that the CSTO "withdrew from Armenia". This all contradicts common sense and logic," the diplomat said on the sidelines of the IV Eurasian Women's Forum, TASS reports.
On September 18, Nikol Pashinyan, speaking at the World Armenian Summit, called the CSTO a threat to Armenia's security and sovereignty. "We froze our membership in the CSTO not only because the CSTO does not fulfill its obligations to ensure Armenia's security, but also because the CSTO poses threats to Armenia's security, its continued existence, sovereignty and statehood," Pashinyan said. The Kremlin rejected these accusations and promised to convey the real situation to the Armenian side.
