ArmInfo. The head and deputies of the State Security Service (SSS) of Armenia, who hold non-military positions, will now have the right to use physical force, as well as carry, store and use special means and weapons. The package of legislative amendments was approved by the Armenian government on September 19 at a regular meeting.
As part of the amendments, SSS employees will be granted the right to use vehicles belonging to individuals and organizations in the performance of their duties.
It is also proposed to limit the right of bodies carrying out foreign intelligence activities (the Foreign Intelligence Service) to involve SSS employees as collaborators, and to create legal grounds for filling vacant SVR positions with Service employees.
The bill, developed by the State Security Service, was deemed urgent.
Earlier the State Security Service was separated from the system of bodies of the National Security Service and transferred to the direct subordination of the country's Prime Minister.
