ArmInfo. The Kremlin categorically disagrees with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in his assessment of the CSTO. This was stated on September 18 by the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov in response to a request from journalists to assess the Armenian prime minister's statements today on the CSTO.
"We must categorically disagree with Mr. Pashinyan. The CSTO cannot and does not pose any danger to Armenia's sovereignty. On the contrary, this organization guards the sovereignty of its member states. But we will patiently convey this position to the Armenian leadership," Peskov said, RIA Novosti reports.
Today Nikol Pashinyan, speaking at the World Armenian Summit, called the CSTO a threat to Armenia's security and sovereignty. "We have frozen our membership in the CSTO not only because the CSTO does not fulfill its obligations to ensure Armenia's security, but also because the CSTO creates threats to Armenia's security, its continued existence, sovereignty and statehood," Pashinyan said.
