Everyone recalls the famous phrase about "iron ladles" when  mentioning the name of Catholicos of All Armenians Mkrtich   Khrimyan. Returning from the Berlin Congress, where he headed the  Armenian delegation, Hayrik delivered his most famous speech, the  "iron ladles." He claimed that the Armenians had placed their hopes  for salvation in others instead of doing it themselves. Hayrik  compared the Berlin Congress to eating the national Armenian dish  harissa, and emphasized that the great powers had iron ladles with  which they could easily take what was due to them, while he was  forced to seek recognition for the Armenians with a paper ladle. He  called on the Armenians to cast aside their timidity and become  masters of their own destiny.
