ArmInfo.Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, co- chairman of the Russian-Armenian intergovernmental commission Alexey Overchuk has arrived in Armenia. The information was confirmed to ArmInfo by the Office of RA Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan.
It is expected that during the visit, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian government will hold meetings with the RA leadership. The meeting with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has already taken place. A meeting with Mher Grigoryan is expected.
It is planned to discuss a wide range of issues related to the bilateral economic agenda.
Overchuk is also expected to visit Armenian Alaverdi, where the transport infrastructure damaged by the recent flood has recently been restored through the efforts of Russian Railways (RZD) and its Armenian subsidiary South Caucasus Railway.
On May 26, 2018, flooding occurred in the Lori and Tavush regions of the Republic of Armenia as a result of the overflow of the Debed River. A number of settlements were in the flood zone, and rail and road communications with them were disrupted. On May 28, the government declared nine communities of the Lori and Tavush regions, which include 39 towns and villages, affected by the flood a disaster zone. On May 31, Russian Railways began restoring the railways of Armenia after the flood. Andrey Matveyev, press secretary of the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, reported that Russia had allocated money for the restoration work. In mid-June, the operation of the railway section from Alaverdi to Ayrum was resumed.
