ArmInfo. In the first half of 2024, compared to the same period in 2023, the number of especially serious crimes in Armenia increased by 17.2%. Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan reported this on September 12 at a government meeting.
According to the Prosecutor General, the increase in crime was recorded in the government's annual report for 2023. However, a certain decrease has been observed during the first half of 2024.
"In general, we registered 18,818 crimes in the first half of 2024, and 19,891 crimes in the same period of 2023. The vast majority of crimes registered in the first half of last year were minor and medium-severity. The picture has not changed in the first half of this year - 81.7% are minor and medium-severity crimes," Vardapetyan said.
According to her, if sudden deaths are excluded from the statistics, the number of serious crimes has decreased by 8.2%. "But we are concerned about other statistics: the number of especially serious crimes has increased by 17.8%, and it is alarming that the number of serious crimes involving the use of weapons has increased," she said.
