ArmInfo. Understanding history is a natural process, especially in light of the modern challenges facing countries and peoples. This was stated to journalists on August 16 by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin, commenting on the issue of the provision in the new history textbook for the 8th grade, in which the annexation of Armenia to the Russian Empire in 1828 is qualified as "annexation".
According to the Ambassador, the position of the Russian side on this issue has already been voiced by the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation. "It is important that honesty, the desire to avoid opportunistic considerations, as well as respect for the memory of ancestors are present in this process," Kopyrkin emphasized.
He added that the Battle of Oshakan is a vivid example of the heroism and dedication of our ancestors, and respect for their memory and common history is something that must be preserved in every possible way. "I am convinced that many more years and centuries will pass, but the unfading glory of the valiant defenders of the Armenian land will live forever in the memory of our peoples as a vivid example of courage and heroism," the Russian diplomat concluded. It should be noted that by the decision of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, the provision on the alleged annexation of Eastern Armenia by Russia will be edited. The department reported that a change will be made to this provision in the near future.
