ArmInfo. In our difficult times, it is especially important to remember the lessons of the past. This was stated by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin on August 16 during a ceremonial event at the monument to the Heroes of Oshakan.
"Every year at this time we gather here to honor the memory of the Russian soldiers and Armenian militiamen who defended the main shrine - the Mother See of Etchmiadzin," the ambassador said. He emphasized that in our difficult times, it is especially important to remember the lessons of the past.
"Our fraternal peoples are connected by centuries-old cultural and civilizational ties and spiritual closeness. This fact will not be canceled by any attempts to rewrite history. Despite the fact that the paragraph about the Battle of Oshakan was removed from the new Armenian history textbook for the 8th grade, you and I will always remember and honor the heroes of those memorable days. Without this, we are unlikely to be able to successfully confront the challenges that Russia and Armenia face today," the Russian diplomat emphasized.
He emphasized that August 17, 1827 is forever inscribed in the heroic annals of both nations. "Despite all the sacrifices and losses they suffered, our defenders withstood the test of strength with dignity and proved that, united by a common goal, they represent a powerful force and can withstand and win under any circumstances," said the head of the Russian diplomatic mission. It should be noted that today's event was organized by the Russian Embassy in Armenia jointly with the Russian House in Yerevan and the Armavir Region Administration.
