ArmInfo. Armenia will not participate in the CSTO command and staff exercises "Interaction - 2024", to be held in Kyrgyzstan from September 3 to 15. As reported by the CSTO press service, the Armenian side informed the Organization that doesn't plan to participate in the exercises. During the upcoming exercises, tasks with the introduction of new tactical techniques and combat experience will be developed. Yesterday it was announced that Armenia will not be sending its representatives to the CSTO special forces exercise, to be held in Novosibirsk, from August 14 to 16.
It is important to note that back in February of this year, during an interview with foreign media, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan mentioned that the CSTO had not fulfilled its obligations towards Armenia during the aggression by Azerbaijan in 2021 and 2022. As a result, Yerevan decided to suspend its participation in the CSTO. Additionally, he hinted at the possibility of Armenia's withdrawing from this military alliance.
On May 8, official Yerevan announced that it would not participate in financing the CSTO for the year.
Following this statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry declared that Moscow expects Armenia to uphold its financial obligations as outlined in the CSTO Charter. It's worth noting that in recent years, Armenia has not only refrained from participating in CSTO exercises, but has also been absent from official events organized by the organization.
