ArmInfo.Turkiye wants an agreement to be signed and peace to be established between Armenia and Azerbaijan. As reported by the Azerbaijani media, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said this at a press conference in Washington following the NATO summit.
Answering a question from journalists about the possibility of concluding a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia before the end of the year, Erdogan said literally the following: "The decision on this matter will be made by Ilham Bey, not me. But one thing is clear: we want the signing of an agreement and the establishment of peace between Yerevan and Baku".
Erdogan noted that at meetings with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Turkey sees that positive steps are being taken. "My brother Ilham also said at meetings with me that he is a supporter of positive steps," said the head of the Turkish state.
On July 10, in Washington, at the initiative and with the participation of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, a meeting was held between Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov as part of the summit dedicated to the 75th anniversary of NATO. "Over the past year and a half, Armenia and Azerbaijan have done very important work towards negotiating and concluding a peace agreement," the US Secretary of State said at a meeting with the heads of the Foreign Ministries of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan. Following the negotiations, the parties announced progress in signing a peace treaty. Yerevan confirmed its readiness to sign the agreement as soon as possible, and Blinken expressed strong US support for the speedy conclusion of a peace treaty between Yerevan and Baku.
