ArmInfo. Iran said no to Baku and Ankara's plans to change the demographic appearance of the South Caucasus. This point of view was expressed by orientalist Sergei Melkonyan.
The expert drew attention to the new statement made by Iran on the South Caucasus. In particular, acting Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani stated the following: "Tehran is against any projects and initiatives that will change the demography of the region and the borders in the region."
He recalled that previously Iran had traditionally stated only that changing borders in the region was unacceptable.
"In this context, we are talking about the so-called "Zangezur Corridor," which Turkey has been wanting to obtain for more than a century. Today, this agenda is being promoted by Baku with the support of Ankara.
However, the statement about the inadmissibility of changing geography has a different context. We are talking about a new project, which is the result of political and sociological engineering of Baku and Ankara called "West Azerbaijan". The fact is that Aliyev and Erdogan created different states in the public consciousness on the territory of Armenia. These were fake "Goycha-Zangezur Republic" or "Western Azerbaijan" (by the way, such a province exists in Iran, so there is a misunderstanding among the Iranian population about which "Western Azerbaijan" they are talking about from Baku)," the orientalist noted.
According to him, the other day the fake community of "Western Azerbaijan" announced the creation of lists of people who plan to populate the modern territory of Armenia within the framework of the "Concept of Return to Western Azerbaijan."
"That is why Tehran issued a statement about the inadmissibility of changing demographics in the region (experts remember Baku's experience in changing the demographic balance in Nagorno-Karabakh during the Soviet years).
By the way, it is noteworthy that this statement was made during an interview with CNN Turk. The target audience has been chosen quite accurately," Melkonyan concluded.
